The Way

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)
In our passage this morning, Jesus answers the question proposed by His disciples. “How can we know the way?” (v.5). He had told them that He was going away to the Father, but He would return and come for them. His response provides clear instruction for all that is needed to attain (not obtain) eternal life with God in heaven. “The way” to God is Jesus Christ. Jesus is “the way” to receive salvation for the penalty of our sin. He is “the way” to know the will of God. Many of God’s children readily accepts Jesus as “the way” of salvation, but then anguish to know God better and know the will of God. So often they complain that they want to know more about God. My friend, God wants you to know Him. Know His presence. Know His power. Know His peace. Know His purpose in your life. He wants you to have eternal life through Jesus Christ. “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3). “The way” to know the Father, know His will, and hear Him when He speaks, is through Jesus Christ His Son. My friend, everything your heart desires of God is through Jesus Christ. He promises to all who will “delight yourself also in the Lord. And he will give you the desires of your heart” (Ps 37:4). There is no substitute for Jesus Christ. He is “the way, the truth, and the life.” All who come to Him will know the Father and know the Father’s will and purpose for their life. Father, thank You for eternal life and “the way” to eternal life. I know that it is Your delight to show Yourself to all who believe through faith in Jesus Christ. Father, open the eyes of my heart to know You and delight in Your presence. All this we ask in the blessed Name of Jesus. Amen.
