Family Focused
Pembroke First Baptist’s mission is to minister to the whole family.
Good morning; “In the Genesis account of Lot’s movement, we see that Lot first gained the grasslands near Sodom (13:10). then he pitched his tent outside Sodom (13:12), only to eventually move into the city itself (14:12). Chapter 19 opens with him “sitting in the gate of Sodom”–the place where the city elders held court. Lot was part of Sodom’s council of elders, which means that he knew what was going on there, even if he could do little to stem the tide of pervasive sin. Although a NT passage states that he was tormented by the wickedness of the city (2 Peter 2:7, 8), still he stayed. This greatly contrasts with Abraham. Abraham lived in a tent, while Lot had a house. Abraham was a pilgrim and stranger in the land; Lot settled down in corrupt Sodom. When judgment fell on Sodom and Gomorrah, God extended mercy to Lot, only because of Abraham (remembered Abraham”; 19:29). Our moves toward wickedness in any regard subject us to not only comprise but danger and, often, even destruction. No good can come from a believer’s failure to flee from sin and temptation”. Precious Lord, I pray for all believers that we would hate what you hate (sin) and that we would love what you love(righteousness). Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!
The Devotion was taken from an excerpt from Dr. David Jeremiah Study Bible this morning.
Good morning, do you remember the conversation Abraham had with God when he was interceding on behalf of Sodom. “Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?” (Genesis 28:24) Abraham begins his intercessory prayer on behalf of an ungodly city because Lot’s family lived in this city. Abraham was pleading with God to spare Lot’s family or the” righteous” within the city from total destruction. Essentially, Lot had lost all influence over his family; Lot’s family did not follow him. And I believe, Abraham knew that Lot had lost his way and any influence over his family. My Christin friend, continue to show your children and their children who God is in your life, do not lose the godly influence over your family. “And the Lord said, if I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes” (v.26). God was willing to spare the city if He found “fifty righteous” within the city. And you know the rest of the story, Abraham continues to return to God, asking for God to spare the city if there were 40 righteous, 30 righteous, 20 righteous, and he got down to 10 righteous. My friend, God is not going to spare America based on the government of this country. America’s future is placed upon the shoulders of the church (the righteous) in the city (America). We are praying for a “spiritual awakening” of the chruch, the righteousness of God. If the church does not rise up and be who God has called us to be, this country is headed for destruction. The end result of Sodom; was destruction because there were not even 10 righteous found in the city. Father, I pray this morning that you would “stir the gift that is within us” that we may proclaim your Word from the church of the living God. Father, forgive us for not honoring your Word in our daily deeds and we pray that you spare our country and that the church (the righteous”) will continue to rise up. Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!
Good morning; I pray you had great worship on this past Lord’s Day! The apostle Peter reminds us of the hope we have in Christ. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:3). Because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, because Jesus defeated death on the third day morning when he came out of the grave, our hope in Jesus will not stop at the grave. My friend, we did not earn God’s favor, but it is “His abundant mercy hath begotten us” God has extended His mercy to us that we may be adopted into the family of God. “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (v.4). The relationship a believer has with God the Father and The Lord Jesus Christ, listen to this ” fadeth not away,” the things of God do not grow old; they get sweeter as the days go by! And I am so thankful for the power of God this morning, so grateful that there is Power in the Blood of Jesus to “reserve in heaven” what we have committed unto God. I hope and pray you have committed your souls unto God this morning, and if you have committed your soul to God, He will keep you “until that day.” ALL MY HOPE IS IN JESUS this morning! Father, I pray this morning for the believer struggling in the flesh that they would be reminded in their spirit that they are kept by the POWER OF GOD!! Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!
Good morning; help me thank God for another morning of His grace and mercy! In the Old Testament, God had a Temple of His people; in the New Testament, God has a people for His Temple. “Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, and ye are not your own” (1 Cor. 6:19)? Whatever we say, or whatever we do as a person, the Holy Ghost of God is saying and doing it with us. Within your physical body is the power of the Holy Ghost, power over the world, power over whatever our current circumstances are, and power to rejoice in the Lord. When we engage in any activity, we must know our body is the Temple of God. “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (v.20). If you are a Christian this morning, if God has received the payment for your sins, you have been purchased from the marketplace of sin. Jesus, THE perfect Lamb of God, was sacrificed on Calvary’s hill; his blood was offered for a sacrifice for many. My friend, every BORN AGAIN believer has been BOUGHT back from sin by the Blood of Jesus! The penalty of sin had to be paid, your sin, and my sin had to be paid for to enter into the presence of God. And, Jesus was the perfect sacrifice without spot or blemish, and all who receive this sacrifice, the payment for your sins have been purchased, and you are not your own. My Christian friend, walk like you are owned by Jesus, have the confidence that your sins are forgiven. You belong to the KING of KINGS. Father, I thank you for your Son who died for my sins and has purchased my soul back from the pits of hell. Thank you that I am His, and He is mine! Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!
