--- THE PASTOR’S CORNER

Prepare the Soil

“A Sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it” (Luke 8:5).

I want to encourage you to turn in your Bibles this morning and read this parable in its totality; the parable is well-known for the sower, the seed, and the soil. The Sower is the Lord Jesus Christ, and those whom He has called the spread the seed (the Word of God), and the soil is the heart of man, woman, boy, and girl. There is a warning in this passage of us carelessly hearing the Word of God; when we do not fully receive God’s Word (seed). The problem in this parable is not with the seed; the problem is with the soil. There is a domestic factor in the roadside soil. “Those by the wayside are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved” (v.12). Think of the distractions during the preached Word of God; think of the movement during the invitation after God’s preached Word. Think about how satan is working to discredit those who are sowing the Word of God in Jesus’ name. satan is doing all he can to distract folks from the seed that is being sown. satan is busy snatching away the seed, discrediting the seed’s authority and fruitfulness in our lives. My friend, our job is to continue to sow the seed and continue to soften hearts with the Word of God. Keep plowing the fields, keep preparing the soil. Paul said, ” I may plant, and Apollos may water, but God will give the increase.” Understand this morning that the farmer does not just show up to their fields and start sowing seed; he prepares the soil. Father, I pray this morning that we would prepare our hearts (soil) to receive the Word (seed). Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!

With All Your Heart

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God will all thine heart and with all they soul, and with all thy might” (Deuteronomy 6:5).

When Jesus was asked in the New Testament which is the greatest commandment, He (Jesus) quoted this passage given to the children of Israel. My friend, the greatest love relationship you will ever have is with God (The Lord Jesus). He loved you so much that He died for you, and He will teach us how to love Him back as we continue to walk with Him. Love Him with all your “Heart” (which means your soul). Love God with all your “strength” (give it all you have), which means for us to work on our love relationship with God. “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart” (v.6). Christian friend, I encourage us this morning to take God’s Word and stand firm in the face of demonic forces, in the face of demonic attacks, pledge your allegiance to your love relationship Jesus. And as we learn of Jesus, and as we grow in our relationship with God “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up” (v.7). God’s Word must be apart of everyday life; as we grow in the depth and richness of God’s Word, we can “diligently” teach our children of God. And, Christian friend, we must teach our children what God is saying about life. We must rely on the Word of God because He will have the final say at the judgment seat. Heavenly Father, I pray for our readers this morning that we would fall in love with your Holy Word and that we would allow your Word to direct our lives and teach our children of “The straight and narrow.” Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!

Strengthen Your Walls

“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken, and without walls” (Proverbs 25:28).

We often make ourselves vulnerable to the attacks of satan and the slander of our enemies because we have little or no control over our own spirit. “A man who gets drunk, loses his temper on the slightest provocation, or cannot control his lusts is like a city with broken walls.” Satan, along with our enemies, learn of our weakness and launch an attack when they see that we have no “walls” (self-control). We must stay close to the cross, feed our mind the Word of God, and “not give place to the devil”. My friend, the same is true for our children; one hour on Sunday morning cannot compete for their mind with a whole week of social media. Satan is looking for ways to weaken our walls, ways into our spirit, and control our thinking. I encourage us this morning to yield to the Spirit of God. Heavenly Father, I pray for our readers this morning that we would be renewed in our spirit, take on the “mind of Christ,” and yield to the Holy Spirit, that the walls of our spirit will stand strong against the attacks of satan and our enemies. Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!

Draw Near to God

“Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end” (Psalm 73:17).

The Psalmist in this passage had fallen into the trap many of us have found ourselves from time-to-time. He had taken his eyes of the Lord and placed them on the prosperity of man; he had watched the wicked prosper, and he thought of how could that be, knowing they didn’t serve God. However, once the psalmist got back into the presence of God, into the place of worship (The sanctuary of God), he realized that all man had was temporary, and they would one-day face judgment. The psalmist realized how precious the presence of God is to the child of God. “Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory” (v.24). satan will try to discourage us, he will try to make us envious of other folks, he will try to take our attention off the things of God and place them on other people. Therefore, as the children of God, we must stay in constant worship with the Lord; we must remain in regular fellowship with other believers and be reminded of our promises in God. “But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works” (v. 28). Father this morning we thank you for the Holy Spirit of God, who reminds us of our fellowship with you, who convicts us when our flesh fails, and brings us back into your presence and reminds us of the (Glory) we will receive one day. Lord, I pray for our readers this morning to feel the Holy Spirit’s touch to remind them of your promises. I pray they would enjoy your presence on this day. Be blessed in Jesus’ Name!
