Family Focused
Pembroke First Baptist’s mission is to minister to the whole family.
“For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward” (Mark 9:41).
I pray you had great worship on this past Lord’s Day in your local church! In our devotional passage this morning, Jesus’s disciples were confused when someone cast a demon out in the name of Jesus and did not follow after them. Jesus reassured His disciples of the reward that comes to someone who will help, assist, pray for, or give to someone in the name of Jesus. My friend, may I encourage you to seek out someone this week to help in the name of Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus, the name that is above every name. When we help someone in the name of Jesus without spreading it, without sharing it, just out of the goodness of our hearts, Jesus will greatly reward you. Father, I pray that you would lead our readers in a direction to help someone through this week in the name of Jesus. I pray we do not seek a return from the individuals but that our goal is to bring glory to the name of Jesus. Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!
“And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man, and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian” (Genesis 39:2).
Joseph proved himself to be a faithful servant of God even after receiving unfair treatment from his brothers. Joseph was his father’s favorite son, one with the “coat of many colors”; however, his brothers had some resentment toward Joseph’s favor. They also hated Joseph for his dreams that God was giving him. My friend, not everyone is excited over the manner in which God will use you. Your anointing will bother the demons in some folks, and they will have resentment toward your anointing. They stripped Joseph of his “coat of many colors,” they threw him in a pit to only pull him out and sell him to the Midianites for twenty pieces of silver. In Slavery, in captivity, God still blessed Joseph, “And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand” (v.3). May I encourage you to stay faithful to the Lord this morning? May I share from this scripture that God’s plan cannot be stopped by human efforts? Joseph stayed faithful to the Lord. God spoke to Joseph in a dream, God had spoken into Joseph’s spirit, and Joseph knew that his dream would come to pass. Stay faithful to God, and your anointing, and what God has spoken into your spirit. Your God-given destiny cannot be changed by outside forces; God has a plan for your life, so walk with him. Circumstances may look difficult right now for you, but God is faithful; stay true to God in the pit, in being sold into slavery, when folks lie, and you are cast into prison. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” No matter what, Joseph laid his hands upon God blessed it! Father, I pray this morning that our readers would find encouragement to fight against the evil forces attacking their anointing and God-given destiny. Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Psalm 90:12)
As we approach this day, there is a battle taking place in our hearts. Jesus desires to be Lord of our heart; however, satan desires our heart at well. And, whatever our hearts seek after will win, do we understand that our days are numbered. We are not born to live in this world forever, and wisdom pursues the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. When you think about the death of a young person or the tears we shed during the passing of a loved one helps us to understand how short life really is. James teaches us that “ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14). My friend, I want to encourage us to number our days and allow our hearts to pursue the wisdom of God, which Solomon said would teach us that all is “vanity”. Father, I pray for our readers this morning that we would set our hearts upon the eternal matter of life in prayer, Bible reading, and the pursuit of Kingdom Work. Be Blessed in Jesus’ Name!
