Give Thanks

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thes 5:18

I pray that you had a blessed and encouraging worship with your local church on the Lord’s Day. We honor God when we come into His presence to give Him our praise and thanksgiving. The cares of the world seem to fade when we join with other saints in worship and hear God speak to our hearts through the reading of scripture and preaching the word of God. What happens each time the saints of God gather together in the local church is nothing short of amazing. God cares for His body and His beloved bride. He is faithful to His word and to His people. And for that we give Him praise and thanksgiving. The scripture reminds us to “give thanks” beyond the local church service. We are encouraged to continue to worship long after the church songs, hymns, and services are complete. The child of God has the privilege and personal relationship with All-mighty God through His Son Jesus Christ to experience Him in every aspect of life and “in every thing give thanks.” When you awake, “Give thanks.” When you walk, “Give thanks.” When you work, “Give thanks.” When you want for something, and wait for an answer to prayer, “Give thanks.” Even when you wonder, stray, and struggle with temptation, “Give thanks.” Yes, “in every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” My friend, our God is an awesome God and desires that you know Him and know that He is present with you at every occasion and experience in your life, and for that you can “Give thanks.” Know that He works in you, through you, and all about you, for “The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: Thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: Forsake not the works of thine own hands.” (Ps 138:8). Whatever the situation or circumstance of life, give Him thanks. Father thank You for Your love and Your faithfulness. I give You praise, for You are worthy. I give You thanks that Your will be done. In the blessed Name of Jesus. Amen.

Unto Good Works

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Eph 2:10

Do what you are supposed to do. That seems so simple. There have been times in my life when I became troubled because I had not met expectations. It may have been a missed assignment, or missed out on a payment, respond in a certain way, or failed to pick up a child after school. Yep, it could happen. Maybe not more than once, but it could happen. Some of these mishaps may have been due to attending to other matters, and others may because of not knowing or understanding what was expected. For the most part, we often do what is expected of us, if we only know what is expected. Have you ever wondered, “what does God expect of me” or maybe “what is God’s will for my life?” The scripture reminds us that “we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” What? God has a plan for me as a Christian. Indeed. There are a few significant words in this passage that are called our attention, most notably, “workmanship…work…walk.” The work that Christ completed at Calvary, is the workmanship that God wants for your life. He desires for His children to know Him, know His ways, look to Him, learn from Him, and lean on Him to trust Him. He wants to involve you in the “good works” that He is doing and His plans for the good that He can accomplish in your life. He plans for His children to know “that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Rom 8:28). God has prepared a plan for your life “created in Christ” with expectation that it will be fulfilled with His help and strength. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jer 29:11). My friend, God has a plan for your life, and will prepare you to do His will. He will equip and lead you to accomplish it. In fact, God says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you” (Ps. 32:8). Dear friend, your loving heavenly Father has great plans for your life, to fill your life with the joy, peace, and rest that is “created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” Do you want to know His will for your life? Start today, go to Him in prayer, meditate in His word, ponder it in your heart, hear Him speak, and trust Him to guide you into all His expectation. He desires to do great things and mighty things with you. Will you join Him? Father thank You for Your love and the marvelous plans that You have for Your children. Lead me in the way of everlasting light. In the blessed Name of Jesus. Amen.

Get Dressed

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering. Col 3:12

I am reminded of a strategy that I learned many years ago, “Dress for success.” The strategy was an encouragement to prepare for the outcome that you most desired. The strategy begins with preparing yourself with the right attitude. The scripture passage reminds us to prepare for our encounter with God and with others. For the child of God, each day is a new day because God’s mercies are new each day (Lam 3:23). The strategy for success in the life of the child of God is to “put on” the garments of God and be clothed in the love of Jesus Christ “as the elect of God, holy ad beloved.” Arise each day and put on “the helmet of salvation” and arm yourself in the word of God (Eph 6:17), that you may succeed in the battles and challenges that lie ahead. Setbacks and defeats come upon the child of God when we are least prepared. So, my dear friend, start out today prepared to defeat the attacks of Satan and combat the attacks of his demonic forces and diversions for evil. “Put on the whole armour of God” (Eph 6:11) that you may be about the Father’s business and conduct the holy operations of our Divine Commander. We are dressed and equipped by the Holy Spirit to conduct and carry out the divine maneuvers of His will with “bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering” that “whatsoever we do in word or deed, do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him” (Eph 3:17). Dear friend, dress for success today, put on the whole armour of God in the spirit of His love, that His peace and His power may work fervently and effectively through you (1 Pet 1:22). Father thank You for Your love. Help me to begin each day with You, dressed and prepared in Your love, which is the bond of true success (Col 3:14). In the blessed Name of Jesus. Amen.
