The Greatest Promise
Good morning; I am reminded in the book of Acts of the final conversation Jesus had with His disciples. He instructed them to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father. There in Jerusalem, they would receive power after the Holy Ghost had come upon them. I thank God this morning for the power of the Holy Ghost, which lives inside of every believer. But I am also grateful and excited about the announcement the “two men in white apparel” made to the disciples! After Jesus had given His final instructions, the Bible says that “a cloud received him out of their sight” (Acts 1:8). The disciples stood there and watched Jesus disappear into the sky; I know their hearts begin to grow heavy. This man, who they had placed all their hope and faith in, is now leaving, ascending into the heavens. I can remember being a little boy not wanting to leave my grandmother’s, and I would look out the back window of our vehicle until I could not see her anymore; then I would turn around in my seat sad. That is what comes to my mind when I think about these disciples watching Jesus leave them. But thank God for the “two men in white appear”. They asked the disciples, “why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven” (v.11). My friend; the greatest promise left to man in the Bible is that Jesus is coming back. He is going to return for His church. Jesus is coming for all those who have been saved, washed in the Blood of Jesus. Thank God for the promise of His (Jesus) return! Father, I pray this morning that all who are reading this devotion will be prepared when you split the eastern sky, and call your church home. Be Blessed in Jesus Name!
